Less wear and tear on the machine. Single shaft shredder, durability is increased. Low power consumption due to lower speed of rotor blades.Lower noise level, which results in a better working environment overall.

1) Ease of Maintenance

Single shaft shredder has fewer components inside the machine. Thus, it is much easier to maintain and clean out by removing a few parts only. Having fewer moving components also makes it less likely for mechanical problems to occur in long run. Further, the replacement cost of blades is lower due to the absence of blades on the upper shear rotor which suffers more wear and tears in the case of a double shaft shredder. Therefore, the initial cost is kept low because maintenance cost remains within the limit too.

2) Better Screen Performance

A single shaft shredder’s screen performs better in separating the particles, thus giving more output. Double shaft shredders have a screen beneath the cutting rotor which gets clogged very easily with many small particles. A Single shaft industrial shredders has an added advantage because of its ability to handle large pieces easier than a double shaft shredder. So, less chance of blade damage due to large feed size and better efficiency are most likely features of the single-shaft industrial shredder. Since both types can be designed with different drive systems, running speeds and their number also vary from one product line to another for the same industrial shredding application. Single-shaft industrial shredders are usually driven by slow-speed diesel engines directly connected with gears assemblies through a hydraulic system whereas double shaft industrial shredders are powered by a high-speed electric motor. Slow speed diesel engine is much quieter than an industrial induction motor, so this contributes to a better working environment overall for operators. Single shaft industrial shredder also has the added benefit of requiring less maintenance and downtime for its life cycle because of fewer moving components inside the machine.

3) Better Product Uniformity

Since single shaft industrial shredders involve fewer components within the machine (shafts), there is a lesser chance to get oversize particles which usually need further size reduction before they can be used in end products. Also, there are more chances to get material blockage when dealing with irregular size materials like foodstuffs, etc. Double shaft industrial shredders produce more coarse particles than single shaft industrial shredders, as such, they are more useful for applications like demolition and recycling of materials.

4) Lower Power Consumption

A single shaft industrial shredder is designed to run at low speed which requires less power than a double shaft industrial shredder. So initial cost of power consumption is lower and it can be used in remote areas where the provision of a special high voltage power supply is not available. Also, due to lesser blade rotation on single-shaft industrial shear, it produces less noise, so noise level within the working environment remains within limit and operators remain stress-free.

5) Easy of Feeding Material

The feeding of material into a machine becomes easier with a single-shaft industrial shredder because of the absence of blades on the upper rotor. Since a single-shaft plastic shredder is designed with one shaft inside, the material is introduced into the machine by pushing it towards the rotor instead of pulling down or lifting up as these actions are not required in the case of a double shaft industrial shredding application.

According to industrial shredding professionals, single-shaft industrial shredders have an added advantage because of their ability to handle large pieces easier than double shaft industrial shredders. So, less chance of blade damage due to large feed size and better efficiency are most likely features of single-shaft industrial shear.

6) High Output Single Shaft Industrial Shredder does relatively low reduction ratio

For industrial shredding applications as compared to industrial double shaft industrial shredders. It is designed for low volume industrial waste disposal, which requires mostly coarse particle output of material. Double shaft industrial shredder produces much more bulk quantity of industrial waste than single-shaft industrial shears because it does high reduction ratio in one pass.

However, it is important to note that the output depends on the type of industrial materials being shredded and also with respect to their size before entering into an industrial shredding machine. The majority part of industrial by-products contains metal particles so they can be treated easily when fed through single-shaft industrial shear without any fear of blade damage due to large feed size. But this rule does not apply when using industrial double shaft industrial shredders.

In industrial materials requiring very fine output, industrial double shaft industrial shredding machines produce better end products than single-shaft industrial shears. For example, the requirement of paper pulp from industrial materials which need to be shredded is fulfilled easily with industrial double shaft industrial shredders. So, it can be said that industrial double shaft industrial shears are multi-functional industrial shredding machines, which do not require frequent changes of rotor, blades, or screens to perform different functions.

7) Double-shaft industrial shredders have high throughput per hour when compared with single-shaft industrial shears but they create more noise and vibrations.

In industrial double shaft industrial shredding application, the feed size is larger so at the initial stage material passes through the cutting zone which creates much more noise due to high revolutions per minute of blades. Also in the industrial double shaft industrial shredders machine, there is a screen installed under the feed inlet to remove fine particles from passing material which further increases the noise level in the working environment.

So, when compared with industrial single-shaft industrial shears, industrial double-shaft industrial shears produce large quantities of end products per hour in Applied Machinery but it requires well-trained personnel to operate these machines efficiently without causing any damage to their models.
